The CTF-615 uses a 9V battery. Open the battery compartment on the handle, insert a fresh 9V battery, and close securely.
First, make sure the tines are inserted into the thickest part of the meat and not touching bone. If the reading seems stuck, replace the battery and confirm the tines are clean. The fork does not require calibration for normal home grilling.

It reads the temperature quickly. The light is helpful for grilling at night. The fork is a bit heavy, but it works well.
