SKU : PER-COF-588
The Cuisinart EM-640 Espresso Bar Grind & Brew Espresso Machine turns your countertop into a café. It grinds fresh beans with a conical burr grinder, then pulls a balanced shot through a 54 mm stainless steel bottomless portafilter. You can make hot cappuccinos, lattes, espressos, and cold coffee drinks—all with the kind of crema you expect from your favorite coffee shop.
Choose from 16 grind settings, from fine for espresso to coarse for French press. The half-pound bean hopper keeps beans fresh with a sealed lid, while the assisted tamper helps you create a flat, consistent puck for even extraction. The powerful 20-bar pump gives you balanced shots that you can fine-tune by adjusting the grind and dose.
Start with a fine grind for espresso, then pull a shot and adjust in small steps. If the shot runs too quickly, use a finer setting. If it drips slowly or becomes bitter, go a few clicks coarser. The EM-640’s 16 settings give you the range to dial in different beans and roast levels.
A bottomless portafilter shows you exactly how the espresso extracts. Distribute the ground coffee evenly, tamp level, and keep your pressure consistent. Minor channeling can happen, but a proper grind and dose will give you a smooth, golden stream and richer crema.
The steam wand texturizes dairy or non-dairy milk for cappuccinos and lattes. For iced drinks, brew an espresso shot directly over ice and add frothed milk or syrup. The included stainless steel milk jug, single and double filters, tamping puck, dosing guide, and cleaning brushes make setup easy.

The Cuisinart EM-640 is designed around the path from whole bean to cup. The conical burr grinder produces less heat and a more uniform grind, preserving flavor. The dosing guide helps you load a consistent amount, and the assisted tamper gives you a flat, even puck before you lock in the 54 mm bottomless portafilter.
Start with the grind set in the espresso range, then pull a 25–30 second shot. If it's gushing, grind finer. If it's choking, grind coarser. The 16 settings let you adapt to light and dark roasts alike.
Use the steam wand to create microfoam for latte art or fluffy foam for a cappuccino. For cold coffee, extract espresso over ice, then finish with cold or frothed milk for a refreshing pick-me-up.
Start fine for espresso (about 3–4), and adjust by taste: go finer if shots run fast, coarser if they're bitter or too slow. For French press, use a coarse setting around 14–16.
The EM-640 is designed for whole beans through its integrated grinder, but you can fill the hopper with beans only. Pre-ground coffee is not recommended for this grind-and-brew system.
Distribute coffee evenly, tamp level with the assisted tamper, and keep the machine clean. Watch the extraction stream; adjust grind if channelling or spraying occurs.
Yes. Pull a shot over a glass of ice, add milk or syrup, and use the steam wand to texturize milk if desired.
Every 2 to 3 months, depending on your water hardness. Use a recommended descaling solution and follow the machine instructions.

I bought this to replace my old espresso maker. The built-in grinder is convenient, but there is a learning curve to getting the grind and tamp right. Once I got the hang of it, the espresso quality is close to what I get at my local shop. The bottomless portafilter is nice for showing off your technique, but it can be messy if you don't do it perfectly. The machine is solidly built and looks good on my counter. I do wish the water tank were a bit larger. Overall, it's a good value for the price.
This machine is amazing! The grinder is easy to adjust, and the espresso tastes professional. Definitely worth the money.
I've been pulling shots for years, and this machine holds its own. The grind settings give me fine control, and the bottomless portafilter lets me see when the shot is perfect. It heats up fast and the steam wand makes great microfoam. Cleanup is manageable. This is a great value for an espresso machine with a grinder built in.
This is a high-quality machine, but I find it a bit complicated to use. There are many settings, and I had to read the manual carefully. The espresso itself is very good once you figure it out. My grandson helps me with the settings. I would recommend it for espresso enthusiasts.
Makes great espresso.
I'm a total coffee nerd and this machine is a dream. The burr grinder is consistent, and the bottomless portafilter shows off my tamping skills (or mistakes lol). It makes cold brew too, which is a bonus. I've had it for a month and no issues. Best purchase this year.
After a bit of trial and error, I am producing espressos that are as good as any café. The machine is sturdy and well-designed. The grinder is quiet and efficient. I especially like the cold brew function. It is a pleasure to use every morning.
Shots are excellent. But the bottomless portafilter makes a mess if you're not careful. Tamping takes practice. Also, the drip tray is small. Still, it's a good machine.
This machine gives me consistent shots every time. The grind settings are precise, and the steam wand works perfectly. I've even made a decent flat white. It's a lot of fun to use.
I look forward to using this machine every day. It grinds fresh beans and brews a perfect espresso. The cold feature is great for summer. The only downside is it takes up counter space. Nonetheless, I love it.
I have used many espresso machines over the years, and this one ranks near the top. The built-in grinder is a huge convenience, and the coffee is always fresh. The bottomless portafilter is a nice touch for those who like to see the extraction. It is easy to clean and maintain. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about espresso.
