The calibrated weight gauge isn't affected by ambient temperature, unlike many digital or float gauges.
Turn the tank valve off, unscrew the old connection, and attach the gauge between the tank valve and your grill's regulator. Open the valve slowly, and the gauge will show the approximate remaining fuel level. For best accuracy, install it while the tank is in its normal grill orientation and check before each cook.
If the gauge seems not reading correctly, first make sure the tank valve is fully open and the gauge is upright. Disconnect and reconnect the gauge, then close and reopen the valve slowly.
